Chikkodi: Farmer sees destruction of crop - Ends life

Chikkodi, Aug 13: A farmer who was distressed at the sight of damage caused to his house and crops by the flood of River Krishna ended his life by consuming poison. The deceased, identified as Appasab Kallappa Mangavathi (5) was from Kallola village in the taluk.

Appasab had raised loan last month and planted sugarcane in his field. On Sunday, he had ventured near his field after the flood waters died down to check the status of his crop. He found that his sugarcane crop had been completely destroyed.

Hurt by this development, he consumed poison. He was admitted into the government hospital here but he did not respond to treatments.
