Mangaluru: Vehicular traffic - Total ban in Charmadi, partial in Shiradi

Mangaluru, Aug 10: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, said that vehicular traffic stands totally banned on Charmadi ghat stretch of the national highway till August 14. He added that in Shiradi ghat stretch, only KSRTC buses and vehicles carrying essential commodities would alone be allowed to move between 7 pm to 7 am till August 12.

He also said that only KSRTC buses and light vehicles are being allowed to ply on Sampaje ghat road now.

Giving details at a press conference he addressed on Friday, August 9 here, Senthil explained that landslide has occurred at Sakleshpur on Shiradi ghat road and therefore, Hassan deputy commissioner has ordered ban on vehicular traffic at night. He clarified that movement of vehicles from the direction of Gundia has also been banned.

"In Charmadi ghat, apart from landslide, huge boulders are also getting deposited on the road. Therefore, movement of vehicles has been banned till August 14, he added. He said that rescue operation is on round the clock in various villages in Beltangady taluk. He said that the administration has requested people living in flood-affected areas to temporarily shift to either relief centers or houses of relatives.
