Udupi, Jun 17: 'Aasare' home for the special children, started jointly by Manipal University and Archana Trust, was inaugurated at Manipal on Monday June 15. Junior Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt, Sri Vishwaprasannateertha inaugurated 'Aasare'.
Speaking on the occasion, home minister Dr V S Acharya informed that he has already sent his recommendations to the department of family welfare to sanction grants for this home for the special children and expressed the confidence that the same will be sanctioned at the earliest.
"Out of 156 such centres in the state, four are run by the state government while 30 are run by non-government organizations. 121 are being run with central aid," Acharya explained. He appreciated Manipal University for extended help to projects backed by humanitarian concerns.
Manipal University chancellor Dr Ramdas Pai, pro-chancellor Dr H S Ballal, vice chancellor Dr Rajashekharan Warrier, Udupi MLA K Raghupati Bhat, Ambalpady Lord Janardhan Mahakali temple trustee Dr Vijay Ballal and Archana Church president Jaivittal were present.
Manipal University registrar Dr G K Prabhu welcomed. Dr Padmaraj Hegde proposed vote of thanks. Sadaram Hegde presented the programme.
