Bengaluru, Aug 9: City police commissioner Bhaskar Rao, has ordered for an inquiry about an audio that is being circulated in social websites, accusing him of continuing to lobby for the post of the police commissioner since the time of the previous state government.
The commissioner has asked joint commissioner of central crime division Sandeep Patil, to inquire into the matter and submit a report within three days. Sources close to the commissioner said that those found guilty in the report may face legal action from the commissioner.
Rao reportedly told to his close ones that his department has been given special powers to listen to conversations between notorious criminals in the interests of the society to investigate certain crimes and controlling them. He also is said to have expressed the opinion that by misusing this power, his telephonic conversation would have been doctored to suit the purpose of the creators of the audio.
The said audio accuses Rao of lobbying for the post of the commissioner during the previous coalition government at the level of the Congress high command. A conversation purported to have happened between Rao and a central Congress leader appears to mention names of Ahmed Patel, Puducherry chief minister Narayanaswamy, K C Venugopal etc. It is said that Bhaskar Rao was unhappy when the then chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, overlooked his seniority and posted Alok Kumar as city police commissioner in the place of Sunil Kumar, who was transferred. As soon as Yediyurappa became the chief minister, he replaced Alok Kumar with Bhaskar Rao.
