Karwar, Aug 8: Rescue operations continue near Kadra dam area in Kaiga village, while the water level rises precariously.
The maximum dam height is 34.5 metre and on Wednesday evening the water level touched 32.7 metre. The discharge of water has also increased due to heavy rains in the catchment area.
The Indian Navy which is conducting rescue operations along with expert rafting teams from Joida and Dandeli rescued 500 people up to midnight on Tuesday.
"IndianNavy rescue team from Naval Base, Karwar rushed to assist people stranded near Kadra Dam, Mallapur Kurnipet, Kaiga in response to a request received from SP, Uttara Kannada. By late last evening, 300 stranded people were evacuated to safety @SpokespersonMoD,” tweeted the official handle of Indian Navy on Tuesday.
The rescue operations commenced at 7 am on Wednesday and over 100 Kaiga employees were evacuated.
Kadra dam, constructed across the Kali river has witnessed a rise in water level following incessant rains in the region.
