Moodbidri, Aug 8: Divakar Kulal (50), a resident of Malali, who was popular for his costume as Sri Krishna during the Mosaru Kudike celebration in the town, died of a short-term illness in the government hospital of Mangaluru on Wednesday, August 7. He is survived by his daughter.

Divakar was a mechanic in a private company in Baikampady in Mangaluru. He used to donne the costume of Sri Krishna in the unique Mosaru Kudike celebration of Sri Gopalkrishna temple of here for 27 years. Earlier, Divakar was in the background troupe, when his father Monappa Kulal used to donne the role of Sri Krishna in the same festive celebration of the temple.

Divakar used to roam the streets of the town during the Mosaru Kudike festival and used to defeat that people in the mock tug of war with the rope that was tied to the earthen pot containing curd as a part of the celebration. He used to gently hit the defeated people with his Chakrayudha, which is considered as the weapon used by Lord Krishna. Divakar Kulal also participated in the weekly programme of the Talamaddale group in his native place of Malali and used to encourage the artistes.
