New Delhi, Aug 7: Karnataka Chief Minister, B S Yediyurappa, paid tributes to former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, who passed away following a cardiac arrest; on August 6 at 10.50 pm. Yediyurappa arrived at Sushma Swaraj’s residence in Delhi on Wednesday.
Yediyurappa recalled her being an excellent orator and an exceptional leader who rose to great heights in her political career as a committed soldier of the country.
Sushma Swaraj served as the Minister of External Affairs of India in the first Narendra Modi government and was the second woman to hold office after Indira Gandhi. "Her proactive outreach to people in distress and easy accessibility to citizens earned her love and respect from the masses. She was hailed as India's best-loved politician by global media," Yediyurappa said.
He remembered her close connections with Karnataka since 1999, when she contested against Sonia Gandhi in Ballari. She even made it a point to visit Ballari every year for Varamahalakshmi pooja for over a decade.
"She is fondly remembered by the people for such gestures," he added. May her soul rest in peace and May God give strength to her family and loved ones to endure this loss, he stated in his condolence message.
