Udupi, Aug 6: BJP Udupi celebrated the central government’s decision to abolish Article 370 and 35A which were applicable to Jammu and Kashmir.

Expressing their joy, Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, BJP Udupi district president said, “Today the whole nation is celebrating in a way when it celebrated at the moment of getting independence. The whole nation is in a joyous mode. Dr Shyam Prasad Mukherji's dream has been fulfilled today. During the independence struggle, no one had imagined that the India will be bifurcated into two. It was due to the British's plan, India and Pakistan were created and Mohammed Ali Jinnah was made prime minister of Pakistan. They even made it as Islamic nation.

"At that moment, due to the Jawaharlal Nehru, a different constitution, a different law was created and no law which was binding the people of other Indian states, was applicable to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and 35A. In some cases, Indians were not allowed to enter Jammu and Kashmir without due permission. Living certificate was also needed to live in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Citizenship was also denied to the children born to Kashmiri women and Indian man. No Indian was allowed to purchase any property in the valley. There were many voices which asked the Indian government to remove special status given to Jammu and Kashmir.

"Today, home minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi abolished this special status which BJP had ensured in its manifesto. For the first time, BJP has brought a notification from President of India and has successfully got it passed in Rajya Sabha. Even many opposition leaders supported this. Jammu and Kashmir has been declared as union territory along with Ladakh. Pakistan has been trying to capture Jammu and Kashmir from India for a long time. This even resulted in Kargil war,” he said.

BJP members celebrated by distributing sweets and bursting crackers.

Prabhakar Poojary, Udupi city BJP, Sheela K Shetty, vice president, Udupi zilla panchayat, Suprasad Hegde, Raghavendra Kini and others were present.
