Mangaluru: St Christopher Association celebrates annual feast

Mangaluru, Aug 5: St Christopher Association (R), one of the oldest association (Estd 1967) in the city, celebrated its annual feast and general body on Sunday, August 4. The association is a body of vehicle owners and drivers and has a membership of over 1,700.

Bishop of Mangaluru diocese, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha presided. Dr Julian Saldanha, RMO of District Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru, was the chief guest. President of the association Francis Dsouza welcomed the gathering.

Sushil Noronha, president of the association introduced the chief guest.



The chief guest in his message said, “The driver of a vehicle has great responsibility towards the safety of the passengers. Hence he has to drive the vehicle carefully following the traffic rules. The driver's safety is the safety of all the passengers in the vehicle. Hence his life is important. As a doctor also he has great responsibility towards the life of his patients. Thus, both driver and doctor have an important role to play in rescuing the lives of the people through their selfless service to the society.”

Children of the members of the association were honoured by the spiritual director and treasurer of the association Fr J B Crasta with cash and kind awards for securing distinction in their respective fields of study. They also honoured Primal for her outstanding achievement in the field of sports. Dr John Edward D'silva, a member of the association was felicitated and honoured for securing Phd in management.

Fr J B Crasta exhorted the members to be in good relationship with the public and by their selfless service to be a model to others. The president in his speech appreciated the good work done by the association for the past 52 years in their service to the society and said that they should show compassion, cooperation, tolerance even to the people of other religions. In this way they should strive to bring peace, harmony and trust among them. He wished the association all well. Leena D'souza, assistant secretary of the association, delivered the vote of thanks.
