Udupi, Aug 4: The main objective of the Student Police Program is to raise awareness about law and order among kids, ASP Kumarchandra said in his speech at the inauguration of Student Police Cadet Programme. The programme was organized at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Alevoor in Pragathinagar, Manipal, on Saturday, August 3.
"It is the duty of the Police Department to maintain law and order in the society, empower women and ensure that the Constitution is not affected by anything. Student police cadets, are provided with various training programmes, such as creating awareness of police duties among kids, training on the measures to be taken during natural disasters, visiting police stations, introduction to paramedics and parade, among others." Kumarchandra added.
Further, Kumarchandra said, "The programme has already launched in 300 schools in the state, with the cooperation of the Police Department and the Student Police Cadets. It is organised with a view to build a lawful and a peaceful society. We have rights, accordingly we have responsibilities too. The basic purpose of the programme is to prepare children to address problems and solve it themselves. The programme aims to make children an indispensable part of the society. Children should also involve themselves actively in scouts and guides and indulge in the activity of planting trees."
"Army is meant to protect our nation from external attack, likewise police extends protection to the nation from internal conflicts. We have good young human resources, but we need to learn to efficiently utilize them. To avoid punishments, we need to follow law and order. A home needs to be reformed so that the city can be reformed. Let every students transform into fine citizens and serve as a back bone to the nation,” Kumarchandra wished.
Manjula, district block education officer said, "The main purpose of the programme is making the children of today, the leaders of tomorrow. There are a lot of social evils in the country, therefore, there is a strong need to build fine citizens. In todays world life is constantly under threat, its imperative that people are always aware and avoid danger and hence we need to prepare the kids to face the threats without fear."
Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya, H Narayan Rao said, "The students of eighth grade will undergo a two-year training under the Student Police Cadet Programme, during which they will tour the state and overseas. They will visit the police department and get knowledge regarding duties carried out by the police force. This is organised in order to train the children on social responsibility. The main slogan of the programme was 'one student, one tree'."
BEO, Uma P also graced the event and ASP Kumarchandra inaugurated the programme by planting saplings.
