Mandya, Jul 30: The activists of Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) gheraoed a girls' school in Pandavapura and took to task the head teacher accusing a teacher of the school of trying to convert the students of the school by teaching them about Christianity.
The activist of HJV accused Elizabeth Mercy, the teacher of the said school of not teaching the lessons from the prescribed syllabus but teaching them about Christianity and Jesus Christ, thereby creating inferior feeling about the Hindu religion in the minds of the children.
The protesters warned the school management and said, "A girl student who got inspired by the teaching about Christianity by the said teacher has thrown all the photos of Hindu Gods and Goddesses and also the turmeric, vermilion powders kept at her home. She has also started wearing a rosary with the cross of Christ. Under any circumstances, we will not allow to convert the children. The management committee of the school should take strict action against the said teacher. The teacher has to correct herself and ensure that such incidents do not get repeated. Otherwise, in future, we will hold fierce protest in front of the main gate of the school with enough evidence."
Head teacher of the school B Manjula said, "We do not have any information with regards to the said teacher teaching religious lessons to the children. Today she has not reported to school. Once she is back, we will conduct inquiry and take suitable action."
The HJV activists ended their protest after the head teacher assured them of suitable action against the erring teacher.
BJP leaders H N Manjunath, Dhananjaya, Srinivas Nayak, Srinivas and leaders of HJV Pandidurai, Markandaiah and Keshava were present during the protest.
