Bengaluru: Woman jumps from fourth floor of pub, in critical condition

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Jul 28: Fear of being caught by the police forced a young woman to jump off the fourth floor of an upscale pub on Residency Road in the city and end up with critical injuries.

The city police have escalated their raids into pubs and other joints, which spring into action late in the night, in order to control the nightlife menace in the city. However, one such raid ended up in this tragedy.

The 23-year-old woman is fighting for her life in one of the private hospitals of the city. Though the incident occurred on the night of Thursday, July 25, it came to light only on late Saturday.

The police, according to sources, conducted raids on three upscale pubs and bars on the Residency Road and Brigade Road that falls under Ashoknagar police station limits.

Scared by the presence of the police downstairs, the young woman, who was on the fourth floor of the pub, jumped from there. She ended up on the portico of the pub, injuring herself grievously in the process. It is said that she is in a critical condition in the ICU of a private hospital.

The young generation has condemned the recent action of the police force of the city of treating the partygoers as criminals. In addition, the youngsters feel that this will seriously bring down the image of the silicon city which is known for peaceful nightlife.

Police should be given authority to conduct random raids for reasons of security but at the same time they should ensure that cops don't harass and intimidate genuine bar goers who visit the place for fun, enjoyment and relaxation. The girl might have jumped out of fear of harassment or for being targeted for no reason.

Utter non sense by the police. Shut down bars so that they don't operate. Are you after the unlicensed bar/pub operators or out to harass people who want to unwind. You are not able to implement use of fare meter on autorickshaws - a basic facility for the people but you dream big .
    Just stop this rubbish.

We are a confused society caught between the old and modern. We want both so there is confusion. We cant just tell the child not to go near the fire because fire in fact is very important .Instead teach the kid the dangers and uses of fire and then give them freedom. These raids are meaningless .Moral policing is useless..Let us be modern but being responsible and by being within acceptable limits without causing harm to others and to self.

Police are raiding to prevent / haul up criminals / immoral activities in pubs...the ones who are just enjoying their drinks have nothing to fear and will not jump.....there is no law which empowers cops to do any harm to people who are drinking in a licensed pub....if the pub has not closed before stipulated time, pub owner becomes responsible...

    Well said k b r, Mangala Uru.

Police are doing their duty in order to prevent / round up criminals / to check on immoral activities in pubs and one should not fear of cops. Police can accost the pub owner for not following the rules and not the people, who enjoy their drinks.

It's very sad that the woman jumped from fourth floor of pub out of fear, who is in now in critical condition.

Dears, freedom does not mean that youngsters dance and drink in bars till late night dressing in obsence cress. Do you think yu are westerners. Dont foil your life by following western culture which prefers nudity. Accoridng to them being naked is civilisation and covering self is old faship and uncivilisation. We dont want such culture in India. If youngersters prefers to follow western culture of living nude, better go to those countries. You will be free there to live in whatever state you like. Police should not allow pubs/bars to run after 12 mid night.

Police can only raid occasionally but no way to put en end to such culture. Rather regularize night clubs or brothels with some legal law or license to carry on such activities for those who are willing/interested. Such raids cannot tame the society and people. Just compare some far Eastern cities and Western countries. (at least some relief towards raping incidents)

People who raid are jealous of people enjoying. What is wrong if the pub runs late night. Its freedom

I think somebody needs to talk Mr
    Alok Kumar.
Police raid stunts unnecessarily is a danger to the city's reputation.
    Karnataka's home minister must intervene.
