Udupi: Famous Tulu writer, retired banker Srinivas Devendra Pejathaya passes away

Udupi, Jul 28: Srinivas Devendra Pejathaya, well-known litterateur, who has written more than 15 famous books in the Tulu language and retired Syndicate Bank manager died on the morning of Sunday, July 28 due to a brief illness. 

He was 88 years. 

Pejathaya was the president of Palimar gram panchayat at the young age of 21. He served as the Diwan of Palimar Math from 1960 to 1970. He gave his contribution in different fields for two decades with the two great personalities, known as the sculptors of Manipal, Madhav Pai and T A Pai. 

After retirement from the bank, Pejathaya wrote many books in Kannada and Tulu languages and won many awards from renowned organizations of the state. 

Pejathaya was lauded by many famous litterateurs and scholars for his translation of Srilakshmi Shobhane song, which was written by Sri Vadiraja in the 15th century AD. He has written variety of stories, poems and devotional songs in Kannada too. 

Srinivas Pejathaya has contributed in various forms for the progress of Udupi Krishna Math, Ashta Maths, religious and cultural organizations of the district. 

He is survived by wife Ratnamma, son Vadiraj and three daughters Veena Sharath, Vidya Suresh and Viveka Ramgopal and hundreds of admirers.
