Udupi, Jul 24: Police of Hiriyadka station arrested the main accused in the murder of bus conductor cum owner Prashanth Poojary, who was hacked to death on July 11.
Two youths had arrived on motor bike to the residence of Prashanth at around midnight of July 11. They had knocked on the door, called him out from the house and hacked him to death with a machete. The accused had left their motor bike at a little distance from the spot and fled, as Prashanth Poojary died. A police case in this connection was registered in Hiriyadka police station.
Rakshak (19), one of the accused, was arrested on July 14. He is in judicial custody at present. The other accused Sachin was absconding after news of Rakshak’s arrest spread.

Brahmavar police circle inspector and Hiriyadka station sub-inspector were collecting clues to nab Sachin. Hiriyadka station sub-inspector and staff received a tip-off that Sachin was waiting for bus near Venur Moorje Cross, Beltangady on July 23 evening. They went and arrested him there.
Rakshak), a native of Perdoor, Alangaru, was granted loan of Rs 50,000 through a cooperative society at Perdoor at the behest of Prashanth Poojary. Rakshak's friends, Sachin and Jerald, had agreed to be guarantors for the loan. Rakshak was not prompt in repayment of the loan. Prodded by the society, Prashanth had questioned Rakshak about faltering in repaying the loan. This angered Rakshak, who planned Prashanth's murder, it is learnt.
There are no other criminal cases against Sachin Naika. The court has remanded him to four days police custody till July 27 for questioning.
