Kasargod: Rain plays havoc in district - Holiday declared for schools, colleges

Kasargod, Jul 22: Rain continued its fury in the district on Monday, July 22. Though there was some respite on the afternoon of Sunday, the downpour continued in the night.

Holiday has been declared for all the schools and colleges by the district administration on July 22 and 23. In addition, orange alert is declared in the district on Monday and red alert on Tuesday. The district administration has informed the concerned departments to be ready to face any kind of eventuality that may arise out of natural calamity.

The continuous downpour has caused lots of damage to property. Two house were completely destroyed, while 92 houses were partially damaged. The crop that stool on an area of 115 hectares is destroyed due to the heavy rain. In the last two days alone, 55 hectare area of crop is damaged. As many as 24 villages of the district are under deluge.

A total of 163 electric poles and two transformers have fallen. Electricity supply is affected in most of the parts of the district. A well, belonging to Shamsuddin, a resident of Bandiyodu Kokkechaal collapsed. Most of the rivers in the district are flowing to the brim. Low lying areas are inundated. Traffic is affected in some places due to landslide.
