Mangaluru, Jul 21: A resident of the city lost Rs 1.2 lac after he came across an advertisement on Facebook about a car sale and sent that amount online believing that the sale was genuine.
A case in the regard stands registered at Cyber Crime Police Station in the city.
The victim, who came across the said advertisement on Facebook, sent a message showing his interest to buy the car. The fraudster, who introduced himself as Meenakshidas, called the victim on June 20 from the mobile number 8533806693 and said that he was an employee of CISF working in Bengaluru International Airport and he was selling his Alto 800 car as he was transferred to Jammu & Kashmir. The cheater also sent the snap of his identification card and the RC of the car on WhatsApp.
The victim, who believed the fraudster, made a payment of Rs 1.20 lac through some transactions to the said person. Once the fraudster got the money, his mobile went on switched off mode. The victim realized that he was taken for a ride by the online cheater and he brought this matter to the notice of the police.
