Mangaluru, Jul 20: Guru Purnima was celebrated with much devotion and enthusiasm at Amrita Vidyalayam, Boloor Mangaluru.
The celebration began with Bharatnatyam, mesmerizing dances and skit performed by students. The skit depicted the silent sacrifices made by the father who is the pillar of the family but is less understood and recognized.
Gurupurnima ritual was performed by the correspondent- Brahmacharini Manglamrta Chaitanya. Students chanted along with her the Vedic chants, slokas, and bhajans.
In order to help instil respect and love in children for their parents, Amrita Vidyalayam all over the nation, traditionally perform Samskriti Puja on the occasion of Gurupurnima wherein the children ceremonially wash their parents’ feet. The traditional puja is based on the verse in the Taittiriya Upanishad that says, ‘Matru devo bhava, Pitru devo bhava’ (Let you be one who worships Mother and Father as God). Brahmacharini Manglamrta Chaitanya guided the children to perform the ritual by washing the feet of their parents with great devotion.
The chief guest S A Prabhakar Sharma KAS (R) Additional Deputy Commissioner DK, appreciated the culture and values imbibed in students.
Vice principal Anupama Rao then did the Aarathi and Brahmacharini Manglamrta Chaitanya distributed Prasada.
