Mangaluru: Police commissioner addresses tweet over imposing emission fine on new vehicle

Mangaluru, Jul 20: A woman drew the attention of the city police commissioner Sandeep Patil, complaining that the traffic police had imposed fine on her vehicle that was newly acquired just six months back, for not possessing emission certificate. The commissioner asked the assistant commissioner to look into the matter.

In her tweet, the woman had said that new vehicles do not need emission certificates till a year since purchase. The woman, identified as Nidhi, said in view of this provision, her vehicle had not been tested for emission. In his reply by way of tweet, the commissioner asked her to mention the spot where the fine was imposed and time. He also said that the traffic assistant commissioner of police has been asked to address the complaint and gave her the mobile phone number of the official.

Nishi, in a later tweet, said that the police had refunded the fine amount after discussing the issue several times. She said that her aim behind raising this topic was to make policemen aware that they need to be people-friendly.

    Yes it is big Joke... In Panambur lot of Trucks/Tippers are running with heavy black fog and it has valid emission test certificate with passed norms. and no Traffic police standing in Baikampady Junction stops them and check.

    Not even a single pollution testing station do this check genuinely. How much ever polluting vehicle, testing station give certificateeven without testing. This is a law just for benefit of few agents and the police... No good comes out of this, other than harasment to the public

    What about cars with tinted glass? The police are not interested in nabbing such cars. There are so many cars in Mangalore with tinted glass.

    How much percentage titnted glasses you are talking about. In Gulf 35% is allowed ..But unfortunate our Trafiic police doesnt know how muc percntage tinted glase are .Thye allow fully 100% tinted glasses vehicle to pass but catach light ones

    Till now I have not understood the necessity of emission certificate. Agreed if there is a limit for Emmision and if it crosses that limit imposing fine. Even though your car is polluting the entire Mangalore, you have to do Emmision test and with that certificate u r allowed to travel.. What's the point?

    The only way to Command respect:
    Maintain Law and order
    Respect for the Uniform.
    Is being strict..... abide by the Law.
    educate the Janatha. and the Police with contd education.
    Wear clean .. uniform. Regular exercise to be trim and in shipshape. fit..crisp.
    regular exercised of the body.
    Well provided with Salary: mobile: Laptop.
    The public/ Janatha should be aware and scared of the COPS not for their rude but strict Cops...
    not to mess around with LAW and disturb PEACE of the neighbors....public.
    Police should be well-read. well, spoken. Smart...
    Respectful... people should Value... and Cops should command that respect.
    like in Japan: Germany: Europe: USA.
    Engage the students/youth in maintaining Traffic as an apprentice..
    community service.
    The jury in courts.
    Keep the teh city clean.
    plant trees.
    pick up Garbage etc.
