Udupi/Kasargod, Jul 19: The disaster management authority in Udupi has issued red alert, warning people of heavy rains in the district for three days, beginning from July 20. The alert has been issued on the basis of weather forecast by Natural Disaster Management Centre and Indian Meteorological Department.

A press release from Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, deputy commissioner, Udupi, warns people of heavy rains for three days from July 20. The authority has warned fishermen and tourists not to venture into the sea. The release has mandated district and taluk level officials to remain in the centres. It directs parents to take care of children and not allow them to go to low lying areas, lakes, sea shores and riversides.

Similarly, Kasargod deputy commissioner Dr D Sajith Babu has declared holiday on July 20 for all the schools and colleges in the district in view of heavy rains in the district during the next 24 hours. A red alert has also been declared in the district for July 20.

A red alert of heavy rain on July 20 was issued earlier in Dakshina Kannada by the authorities. Holiday is declared on July 20 for schools and colleges in the district.

Rain is welcome unless it cause havoc but there is less chance since swelling rivers due to water from other districts enter Udupi.
