Mangaluru: Heavy rain – Holiday declared for schools, PU colleges in DK on Jul 20

Mangaluru, Jul 19: In view of heavy rains, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada (DK) district has declared a holiday for schools and PU colleges in the district on July 20.

As per meteorological department, there will be heavy rain from July 20 to 22. As there are chances of flood and heavy damage, red alert has been declared in the district.

In a notice, the deputy commissioner has warned people not to go to waterlogged areas and artificially flooded regions. The notice also instructed fishermen to not go fishing.

It has also warned tourists not to visit beach and river sides.

In case of emergencies, a 24x7 control room is functioning at the deputy commissioner’s office. People in distress can call 1077 (toll free number) or WhatsApp 9483908000.

    Mushraf, you take one leave during emergency no problem.. attendance won't be shortage....but there's no heavy rain as such. Anyways... If you are unable to go take leave and study at home please.. Today half day... three periods only..

    Dear Mangalore City Corporation,
    Please send someone to check and record how much water runs on all the fancy concrete roads that you have got constructed over the years, as if there are no drains on the sides. No one walking or riding on these fancy roads will be able to see any death traps like open sections of drains, open manholes. Of course, no city corporation in India has liability if people lose their lives when they fall into drains, open manholes and other such death traps. Is this the way to prepare for climate related emergencies ?

    It has been raining continuously since morning in Suratkal, Kulai area - but doe it warrant a holiday being declared for schools & colleges? We always seem to act in haste, on predications. Anyways, kids are going to have field day worrying their parents at home!

    Hardly any rains in scattered areas with water logging in low lying areas did not warrant a school holiday; moreover IMD forecasts have miserably failed so far!

    in most of the village in the city farmers are still waiting for enough water flow to start with peddy/Farming works.
