Cars parked in wrong places in Bengaluru to pay Rs 10,000 fine

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SHP)

Bengaluru, Jul 18:  Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) have asked the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to impose a hefty fine on those who park their cars in wrong places. The BBMP is following the footsteps of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). A circular was sent In this regard by the BTP to the civic body where the fine amount was mentioned which would range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.

BMC has even levied late fees for those who fail to pay in the given time. A draft based on this model is yet to be prepared by the BBMP. P Harishekharan, additional commissioner of police (traffic) said, “We have asked the BBMP to prepare a draft by involving the other departments, as the rules have to be implemented within its corporation limits.”

Considering the absolute need to curb the number of cars parked in the illegal spaces, Harishekharan said, “It has become very difficult to manage traffic in the Central Business District (CBD) as the number of vehicles has gone up. So has the number of violations. Illegal parking causes heavy traffic congestion along the major roads of the city. We feel the existing fine amounts are not enough to deter violators. We need to impose heavy fine along the lines of the BMC. The BBMP will study it and seek approval from its council.”

Somashekhara S, chief engineer, Road Infrastructure, stated that they were looking into the rules and regulations laid down by BMC in their model. These are usually undertaken by the transport department. But since these rules have to be enforced within BBMP limits, Somashekara and his team will be required to create a draft and place it before the BBMP council.

Once through the motion will be presented to the state government for approval. The fine amount may vary based on the CBD and the newly added areas of the city.

This looks like a money-making scheme. When there is no sufficient space to park the vehicles in Bangalore, where do they expect commuters to park them. Instead of this, there are other serious issues which requires immediate attention, like curbing rash driving and driving under the influence. Please concentrate on them first.

First of all the BBMP and Bengaluru police should make arrangements for paid parking wherever required and possible. However this kind of steep hike will only encourage corruption. Instead of resolving the issue, both of them are complicating it. So so dumb.

Has BBMP every provided any public utilities in its whole history..?

They should be questioned for this for not providing suitable parking spaces in the first place.

We have to penalise BBMP in first instance as they will not provide basic amenities to the General Public including Garbage lifting from the Residential Areas.

I saw even in udupi some will bring the park the car full day. How others who comes for shopping wants only 30 minutes they will not get parking. Even in front of udupi municipality ,there is a board... no parking. People just park full day.

Request the police to please earmark no parking zones with signages. In mangalore sometimes the van comes ,blows a siren , announces vehicle number and notes down number even if no parking symbol is not there and send fine notice

It is a big problem in some big cities where there are more vehicles and less parking space. When big malls and shopping centers are constructed, the builders and owners should provide some floors or space for parking. Here it is not done and that is why parking problem arises.

The proposed fine is good. At the same time BBMP should increase the parking Lots. I recently went for shopping in Malleshwaram. there was no open parking spaces to park . i began going round and round in the hope of finding some space, i could not find any and eventually went back without shopping. I am sure that many would have faced it.
