Mangaluru: Drug abuse – Police raid paying guest accommodations

Mangaluru, Jul 17: In order to nip the menace of drug abuse in the bud, the police visited a number of paying guest accommodations meant for students in the city on the morning of Tuesday July 16 and conducted scrutiny.  

The police however said they did not find any objectionable items during these raids. 

The department has decided to keep on acting against use of drugs by youngsters through various measures including raids like these. The department has taken serious note of the consumption of drugs destroying the future of bright students. 

The police said they will continue to operate against the drugs in the future.

    Dear Authorities,

    I know what the real drug here is and you do know it too. It's MONEY and who holds the power to make the most of it or get their share. If this stops coming in, you'll not get your cuts and hence probably these are threats to get them back.

    You cant prove nor deny this because, the law and the court of law can't prove,disprove nor judge such a statement as above without facts and evidence, off of which, such facts and evidence is at your disposal and you can keep them or destroy them at your discretion.

    So tell me dear authorities. Cutting the supply is the main target? Or harassing the public, students and people of the city. Those who can supply drugs dont stay in PGs, you dear authorities know how much MONEY is involved in this game.

    So my humble request, stop victimizing the poor students(penalize them if wrong) but they are not the real PROBLEM!! Isnt that right ???

    Stupid actions being taken by cops on the behest of an over zealous police commissioner who has been trying score some brownie points with the public and his bosses by trying be some kind of macho singham like figure. This is a violation of privacy of the vulnerable young students. This serious problem should sorted by some good intelligence gathering and effective policing and not by publicity stunts. Go after the kingpins and not the small fish.

    Nipping from the bud is when you catch the source of supply not the end users. Source is strong and has political and money power so end users are easy to be punished

    Dear all concerned
    Most of the PG accommodations are occupied by outstation students of colleges . The following points need to be addressed which will solve measure issues
    1. Why are these students not staying in the hostels/ why hostels are not provided/ why hostel accommodation is costly( it is the duty of all colleges and parents to see that outstation students stay in hostels)
    2. Why the PG accommodations flourished ( is it not because of no rules/ no monitoring of technology inmates/ easy income ( tax free)
    3. Are the PG owners going to act as guardians in place of parents
    4.if there are college hostel like rules/ dos and dont’s with entry exit restrictions then will students prefer PG
    5. It is nothing but the freedom and the lack of restrictions which have made PG accommodation attractive to students and not the mess food or the hostel cost which students tell parents to convince them
    6. Let the concerned draft policy for PG accommodation and monitor strictly like hostel and let all type of institutions have their hostels
    7. Why apartments are rented out to students / is it not because of the rent paid by 6 people individually which is more than a family can afford
    The bold statement is the freedom and the money involved

    Police are digging in the wrong place. The reason why there are so many PG s is because there are too many students and worki ng individuals from far away places. The authorities and city planners are to be blamed for indirectly inviting this crowd in a city (by giving permission to new schools and colleges )which is stressed out for resources such as water, green areas, wide roads,lits of noise and air pollution...the list goes on.Increasing our business is good but at what cost?? Let the city expand horizontally not vertically. Let the new institutions be in rural areas. There are enough colleges for local kids inside the city..but then who will satisfy the greed of powerful people?

    This process to eradicate drug is not ideal, instead have some CID'S around colleges, schools etc and catch the main dealers.

    But they wont do that because if they do then they will lose their monthly Hafta.

    No use of rapid raid(s) like these on PG's .

    First of all PG's should run under guideliness of District administration. Those who consume these drugs will not store in Kilograms' but will be in fraction of grams!

    The best way is to control this menance by installing CC TV's where required!

    Do they have court orders to raid houses? This is an utter violation of privacy.
    To hide their incompetence in nabbing the kingpins of drug supply, our police are troubling students in the name of raids. If police makes up their minds, it is not a big task to stop supply of drugs in the district. But who will kill the olden egg laying goose?
