Mangalore, Jun 1: Out of 11 students who came together to Mallamar Beach near Suratkal Light House on Sunday to have fun and frolic, one went missing after being washed away by waves. Out of the two students who faced danger after entering the sea, one has been saved.
The missing boy has been identified as Shah Rukh (15), son of Mohammed, a resident of Chokkabettu near Suratkal. Altaf, also from Chokkabettu, was rescued. The group of students had gone to the Mallamar Beach near Suratkal NITK after taking part in a marriage feast at around 1 pm on Sunday. At nearly 2 pm, a strong wave swept Altaf and Shah Rukh into the sea. However, immediately thereafter, Altaf was pushed back towards the shore and the local people immediately jumped into the sea and saved the boy. Shah Rukh, who supposedly got caught in a whirlpool, could not be found.
The people, with the help of Suratkal police, launched an operation to search for Shah Rukh. He was the eighth standard student of Katipalla Narayana Guru School and said to be the only son of his poor parents.
