Mangaluru, Jul 16: A person who fought with his wife before leaving his home in a huff got caught by the police. When a policeman was escorting him to the police station, the man, who still seemed to be in a disturbed state of mind, jumped into the river and lost his life. This incident happened at Kulur on Sunday night, and the mortal remains of the victim, Muneer (42) from Kudroli here, was found on Monday evening from near Bengre here.
After Muneer had a bitter fight with his wife on Sunday night, his family members and in-laws had consoled him. Muneer who got seated in a mini fish rickshaw tempo, left home. Before leaving, he said he would not return home and would give up his life by torching the vehicle. He also said that he would first visit his elder brother at Padubidri before taking a final decision.
Police looking for Muneer's body near Kulur bridge
After Muneer left, his relative, Muhammed, complained to the Bunder police station at about 11 pm on Sunday, saying that Muneer had gone missing. The police accordingly sent information to all police stations in the vicinity, informing the people there that Muneer had left in a rickshaw tempo. He was finally taken into custody when passing through Padu Panambur near Haleangady.
The policeman who found and pacified Muneer, was returning in the same rickshaw tempo to the city when Muneer stopped the vehicle near Kulur bridge, informing that he had to relieve himself. But immediately after alighting, he suddenly jumped into the river from the bridge. He went missing and search operations in the area and also in Gurpur river went waste. His body was found from near Bengre on Monday evening.
The post-mortem of the body was conducted thereafter. The family said that Muneer was in the habit of leaving home for long intervals and in the recent past, he had come back after living separately for several years. As the family members did not want this to happen repeatedly, they had contacted the police for help.
