Bengaluru, Jul 16: Former minister, Roshan Baig, who has certain issues against the Congress leadership, and who had been earlier summoned by the enforcement directorate over his alleged sale of property to IMA Monetary Advisory, was taken into custody by the special investigation team (SIT) that is probing the said scam. He was picked up from the international airport here during the late hours on Monday, July 15.
The SIT had issued second notice to Baig on Monday, seeking his presence on July 19. It had earlier taken into custody the city urban deputy commissioner, B M Vijay Shankar, and assistant commissioner of the city (north) zone, L C Nagaraj, alleging connivance. It is gathered that a team of the SIT which got information that Baig was planning to fly to Mumbai, went there and took him into custody just before Baig could board a chartered flight. The team which went to the airport was led by deputy commissioner of police, S Girish.
It is said that Baig was very close to Mohammed Mansoor Khan, main accused in the IMA Khan, who on Monday informed through a video that he would be returning to India from his hideout in the Gulf on Tuesday.
The chief minister was quick to allege that BJP had helped Baig with his plan to escape. He pointed out that Yeddyurappa's personal assistant, Santosh, and former BJP MLA, C P Yogeshwar, were present with Baig at the airport. He said in a tweet later that as per his information, Santosh ran away at the sight of SIT personnel. In another tweet, he claimed that Yogeshwar was present there and shamed the BJP for trying to help a scam accused in executing a plan to escape.
