Mangaluru, Jul 15: The public outrage is out in the open again due to the toll contractor’s decision of collecting toll from local vehicles. The NITK tollgate contractor has cited loss as the reason for this step.
The delegation of committee against tollgate met the deputy commissioner (DC) Sasikanth Senthil today and discussed the issue with him and asked him to order a stay on the decision of collecting toll from local vehicles from July 16.
The committee has urged that the tollgate at NITK should be closed permanently. Under any circumstances toll from local vehicles should not be collected. A meeting should be held under the leadership of the chief secretary of the state. Till then status quo needs to be maintained.
The committee, in its appeal, has said that if the tollgate personnel start collecting toll from July 16, even after protest by the public, then people cutting across party lines will gather in front of the toll gate at 7.30 am and will stop the toll collection.
The deputy commissioner, who responded to the demands of the committee, promised that he will discuss the matter with the chief secretary of the state and try to resolve the issue.
