Bengaluru, Jul 14: The leaders of the BJP party asked the chief minister (CM) H D Kumaraswamy on Sunday, July 14 to resign with immediate effect saying that the coalition government has lost its majority in the Assembly. They also asked the CM to seek a trust vote on Monday itself.
B S Yeddyurappa, state BJP president, said, "If the chief minister of the state is honest and abides by the democratic system of administration, then he should resign immediately and move a motion in the Assembly proving his majority on Monday itself."
The state BJP chief said that 16 MLAs of the coalition government have resigned and two independent MLAs also have extended their support to BJP.

He further said, "He does not have the numbers. So he should resign immediately. I will give this advice to the CM on Monday in the Business Advisory Committee meeting."
The chief minister on Friday had said that he will seek trust vote on the floor of the Assembly and end the existing political crisis. He had also asked the Speaker to fix the time for the same. According to sources, the CM had proposed Wednesday as the day for moving the confidence motion. However, no final decision was taken.
Yeddyurappa further said, "Kumaraswamy has told that he will not continue as the CM if the rebel MLAs will not support him. However, even after great convincing and pacifying by the party leaders of Congress and JD (S), rebel MLAs of Congress K Sudhakar and M T B Nagaraj are adamant on not taking back their resignations. In addition, 15 MLAs have moved to the Supreme Court and the decision from the apex court may come on Tuesday."
The coalition government is in serious trouble as 16 of its MLAs, 13 from the Congress and 3 from JD (S) have resigned to their assembly memberships. If the Speaker accepts their resignations, then the coalition government will fall as they will not have the majority in the Assembly, the strength of which will be reduced due to the resignation of the 16 members.
Even the two independent candidates, who were made ministers recently, amidst huge uproar from the Congress MLAs, have quit the ministry of the government and withdrawn their support to the coalition government.
At present the ruling coalition has the strength of 116 without the Speaker. BJP has 107 on their side with the support declared by the two independent MLAs. If the resignations of 16 MLAs are accepted by the Speaker, then the numbers of coalition will drastically reduce to 100 and it will fall short of the majority to hold on to the rule in the state.
