Mangaluru, Jul 14: This year 8,000 people from the state will take part in the annual Haj pilgrimage. 750 people will take the Haj pilgrimage from Mangaluru Haj camp. The inauguration of the flight journey of the Haj will take place at 10.30 am on Wednesday, July 17 at Bajpe Ansar Public School.
State Haj and Wakf minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan will inaugurate the ceremony. Minister U T Khader will distribute the passports of the first batch of Haj pilgrims. State Haj committee president R Roshan Baig will flag off the vehicle carrying the first team. The programme will be presided over by MLA Umanath Kotian. The introductory speech will be given by K M Abubakkar Siddique, member of state Haj committee.
Mangaluru Haj Centre was established on October 25, 2009. In the last nine years, 6,000 people have taken the Haj pilgrimage through this committee. This information was shared by Y Mohammed Kunhi, president of the committee in a press conference.
The pilgrims from the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi will leave on July 17 and 18. On July 19, pilgrims from the districts of Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi will leave for Mecca. In total the pilgrims will travel in five flights. After the pilgrimage, the pilgrims will return in phases from August 31 to September 2 in five teams.
