Kundapur, Jul 13: As per latest reports, mother of two-year-old Sanvika in Edamoge, Kundapur, whose lifeless body was found yesterday, confessed that she killed her own daughter.

Kundapur, Jul 12: Udupi police suspect mother’s involvement in the disappearance and death of the two-year-old Sanvika in Edamoge, Kundapur.
On Thursday, Sanvika’s mother Rekha Naik told police that a person gained entry into her house from the backdoor and abducted Sanvika. She said that she got up for the sound of the footsteps and begged the masked kidnapper to return her the baby. However, the person jumped into Kubja River with Sanvika and swam across. She said he escaped towards Hosangadi.
The Udupi police launched a man-hunt on Thursday to trace the missing child. On Friday, to everyone’s shock, Sanvika’s lifeless body was found stuck in between the shrubs in Kubja River. Her body was found just two-kilometres away from her home.
A police source says that investigators had a hunch that Rekha was lying with regard to the abduction. After the lifeless body was found, the police feel that certain facts are hidden from them.
Udupi superintendent of police (SP) Nisha James took up the case personally and conducted investigations visiting the spot. She formed a special investigating team under the leadership of DySP B P Dinesh Kumar.
Local people and fire service personnel had searched unsuccessfully for Sanvika on Thursday. Local youth got down into the Kubja River to search for Sanvika on Friday. As they covered a distance of two kilometers in the water, they found the body of the child in between shrubs, near stones with its face down. The youngsters immediately informed Shankernarayana police who arrived at the spot and conducted investigations. The lifeless body of the toddler is taken to Manipal hospital for postmortem.
Police have said that further investigations will be conducted on the basis of postmortem report. Additional SP Kumarchandra said that they are contemplating on taking the mother into custody to ascertain if Rekha played any role in the incident.
