Udupi, Jul 12: Devotees in large numbers took part in the 'Tapta Mudra Dharana' ritual at Sri Krishna Math and Admar Math here on Friday, July 12.
On the account of Chathurmasa Vritha, seers of different Maths performed the ritual.
On the occasion of 'Shayani Ekadashi' which falls today, Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Palimar Math, Ishapriya Theertha Swamiji, junior pontiff of Admar Math and Sri Vidyarajeshwar Swamiji, sealed the figures of ‘Shanka’ and ‘Chankra’ on the chest and arms of the devotees at Sri Krishna Math.
The senior seer of Admar Math Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji and Raghubhushan Theertha Swamiji of Kanguru performed the ritual 'Tapta Mudra Dharana' at their respective Maths.
The two seals ‘Shanka’ and ‘Chakra’ were heated in Sudarshana Homa, which was conducted at the temple in the morning. Devotees were seen standing in long queue for their turn to take part in the ritual.
The ‘Chakra’ seal was stamped on the right arm, while the ‘Shanka’ was stamped on the left arm.
The ritual is held on ‘Prathama Ekadashi’ or ‘Sayani Ekadashi.’
There is myth that Mudra Dharana helps increase immunity power in one’s body and reduces sickness. Another reason this ritual is conducted is to keep seasonal diseases at bay.
Sri Vidyadeesha Swamiji stamped the seals on two junior seers. People of all ages actively participated in the ritual.
