Bangalore, May 28: A movie hall (screen no.2) of the Innovative Multiplix located on Marathalli main road here caught fire at around 2.45 am on Wednesday 27. The fire brigade personnel, who came in nine vehicles, launched an operation that lasted two hours, to douse the flames. A worker of a hotel in the building is suspected to have died of suffocation, caused by thick smoke emanating from the theatre.
Velu from Tamil Nadu, who was working in a hotel located in the complex, was sleeping with other four workers of the hotel after his duty hours. As soon as the fire broke out, the other four ran away, leaving Velu there. His colleagues came back later and brought him out, but he did not wake up. He was then admitted to a hospital but he breathed his last by afternoon, the policemen revealed.
Equipments worth about five crore were burnt down in the fire, cause for which is unknown as yet. Seats of the movie hall too were gutted. It is not clear as to whether the fire safety equipments installed at the complex functioned immediately after the fire broke out.
