Puttur, Jul 9: Mudara, headmaster of Haradi higher primary school in the taluk, stands suspended through an order issued by the deputy director of public instruction, Dakshina Kannada district. He has been accused of selling items supplied for operating the midday meal scheme of the government in the school.
The school development and monitoring committee (SDMC) had complained to the educational officer for 'Akshara Dasoha' scheme about the irregularities committed by the headmaster by selling 11 sacks of rice supplied for the said scheme, and recording false details in books of accounts. President of the taluk panchayat here, Radhakrishna Borkar, had taken the issue seriously. This issue had also been raised at the general session of the zilla panchayat.
'Akshara Dasoha' educational officer, Rajalaxmi, taluk panchayat executive officer, Jagadish S, and assistant director under the scheme, Suresh Kumar, had visited the school in the presence of the members of the SDMC, investigated the matter and sent a report to the zilla panchayat.
The zilla panchayat chief executive officer, who verified the investigation report, had forwarded the same to the district Akshara Dasoha educational officer, duly recommending further steps. On the basis of the report, DDPI, Y Shivaramayya, noting that the allegations against the headmaster of the school have been prima facie proved, issued an order of suspension.
Senior-most teacher of the said school, Priya Kumari, has been asked to function as headmistress of the school in place of the suspended headmaster.
