Mangaluru Jul 9: National Commission for Women (NCW) would take over the entire responsibility of providing education to the Puttur gang rape victim. At the same time, NCW has filed a Suo Moto case against five students who are involved in this gang rape, stated member of the NCW, Shyamala Kunder.
Addressing the media here on Monday July 8, Shyamala Kunder said, "I have paid visit to the college and residence of the victim and spoken with her mother and collected information about the incident and also met district superintendent of police, Laxmi Prasad, for putting together all information about the incident. During the meeting with her mother, i found out that the family is jittery about how the society will treat the victim of the incident.
"NCW assured full support to the family and assured to bear the educational responsibility of the victim. At the same time, the victim demanded to take stringent action against the culprits and we have agreed," she stated further.
She also said that compensation amount of Rs 4,12,250 will be disbursed soon to the victim through social welfare department and another four lac rupees from central victim compensation fund scheme.
Shyamala Kunder urged the superintendent of police to conduct frequent raids on petty shops that are close to schools and colleges where the students deposit their mobile phones and then go to college. Mobile phones divert the minds of students. Parents take care about their daughters and have more concern but they forget the same practice when it comes to their sons, she opined.
