Sullia: Youth dies after surgery, parents allege negligence

Sullia, Jul 8 : A youth, who got admitted to a private hospital in the city for the surgery of the nose, died after the procedure. His parents have filed a complaint with the police saying that the death of the youth occurred due to the negligence of the doctors. 

Nishant, a resident of Palibetta in Virajpet taluk, is the person who lost his life. 

Nishant was admitted to a private hospital in the town, a week ago, for surgery related to the nose. However, he died on July 6 after the surgery. 

The parents of the youth have alleged negligence of doctors and have filed a complaint in this regard. 

The body of the deceased youth was sent to Mangaluru for post mortem.

    In India, hardly any case of medical negligence comes up as the laws are very lax and the process of proving the case is very tedious, lengthy, & costly, and also the influence of the doc cartel!

    The United Kingdom’s high court has upheld an order banning an Indian-origin doctor, who had been found responsible for the death of a cancer patient at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (KDAH), from practicing there.

    In August 2018, a UK medical tribunal had found Dr Pantula Sastry, an oncologist, responsible for the death of a 55-year-old woman who suffered from non-Hodgkins lymphoma. According to the tribunal, Dr Sastry had performed a stem cell transplantation on the patient Sushma Agarwal, knowing that her condition was not suitable for the procedure. Agarwal died 21 days after the procedure.

    After the tribunal banned him from practicing in the UK, Dr Sastry appealed against the decision with the high court but it was dismissed. “I am satisfied that there has been no error of approach by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service,” said the UK high court...

    How many post mortems in India have declared that the cause of death was due to human error?

    People in the know have expressed the opinion in the past that post mortems are not all that they are made out to be.

    But no one has the time and resources to press further.

    Be careful my dear. If doctors go for strike then ruling govt of Karnataka and poor patients of Karnataka will be in trouble.

    Many patients go walking to the hospital for treatment and come back from ICU as mortal remains. No body questions. Because once life gone means it will not come back. No use taking trouble.

    Very soon the time wil come when no doctors wants to take any moderate-risky cases..labelling everything as medical negligence has become a trend these days..people who dont know abcd of medicine r using dis word with full confidence..atlast public will be the biggest losers...i have full sympathy with the parents who have lost their child..parents have all the right to ask for an explanation with the commitee and can complain...public should keep their mouth shut without knowing the actual cause of death..human body is not a machine where u can fix everything and anything..

    Other studies report much higher figures, claiming the number of deaths from medical error to be as high as 440,000. The reason for the discrepancy is that physicians, funeral directors, coroners and medical examiners rarely note on death certificates the human errors and system failures involved. Yet death certificates are what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rely on to post statistics for deaths nationwide.

    Very sad young boy expired after the surgery.I feel here comments are given without knowing abc about operation and cause.Please people be little sensitive towards the family.and first of all you know nothing .A nose operation,or tonsil operation seems to be simple,but sometimes when starts bleeding due to any small reason ,difficult to control ,.profuse bleeding might get into lungs and that again suffocates and end is faster than you think.I dont know what reason is ,but still sad that family lost their son untimely.Heartfelt sympathy to them .May the lord give them strengt to bear the pain.May his soul rest in peace.

    In India, people love to decorate their name with "Dr" and love to wear a stethoscope around their neck.

    But how many such "Drs" are really qualified to conduct a surgery? How many have the required experience?

    A patient has a right to know these matters before getting cut by a man in white coat.

    A "Dr" could be a non-MBBS person! He may have gone through some Ayush training, but have no knowledge in surgery.

    Unless the hospital declares the real qualifications/experience of a surgeon, people must not choose such hospitals where non-emergency surgery is required.

    Many times doctors and staff are very causal on approach and neglect the patient's and their guardians pleas.....I think hospital has to compensate the family, but the loss of young soul is immense..

    Doctors/Surgeons mostly do their duty with full confidence and fair amount of care and concern for the patient. However, sometimes due to sheer negligence a patient may suffer further damage to life. Such cases are very limited. Person who needs to undergo surgery first must have faith & confidence in the medical team and must pray to God to safe guard his life. Even doctors believe in Gods mercy.
    Here it is a simple nose surgery and operation was successful (in doctors opinion) but unlucky patient passed away. Such a lovely good-looking boy !

    Now a days admitting hospital is risky. We do not know what doctors do. If patient goes to ICU than 99% it is a dead case. We do not know what doctors do inside. Patient party are not allowed to see, though patient is in last moment. We should peep from window or glass. Only one are two are allowed inside.

    Though, at the input level ( MBBS admission), there is consideration of reservation and payment seats, at output level (exam) all are treated equally and hence, to say doctor is not qualified is not right. The Rhinoplasty surgery, I am told is generally safe, except there can be some problem of anesthesia and the cleanliness of hospital or negligence of doctors.
