Mangaluru, Jul 7: Deeptika Putran, a power lifter from here, had tweeted to union sports minister, Kiren Rijiju, informing him that she would be taking part in Commonwealth Power Lifting Championship scheduled to be held in September this year. She explained that she is badly in need of monetary assistance and requested the union sports minister to help her to improve her achievements in the field of sports.
Rijiju responded to this tweet, duly informing her that as per a policy decision, financial assistance is extended only to former sports persons who are leading a retired life. He said that this pension is limited to those who have won international medals. Therefore, he said he had already asked Sports Authority of India team to contact her.

The city-based Deeptika Putran has won silver medal in national power lifting championship. She is a young sportsperson from Karnataka. She would be representing India in the Commonwealth Power Lifting Championship which would be held on September 19 in Canada.
