Petrol, diesel prices to go up on July 5 midnight itself

New Delhi/Mumbai, Jul  5 (IANS): Petrol and diesel prices are set to increase from Friday midnight as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an additional special excise duty (SAED) of Re 1 and a road and infrastructure cess of Re 1 per litre on both the transport fuel while presenting the Union Budget 2019-20.

Currently, an SAED of Rs 7 per litre is charged on both branded and un-branded petrol and Re 1 per litre on diesel. Also, road and infrastructure cess of Rs 8 per litre is being charged on both the fuel.

"From Friday midnight, the basic prices will increase by around Rs 2 per litre of petrol and diesel. The actual prices in different states will vary, depending on local levies," All Indian Petrol Dealers Association (AIPDA) spokesperson Ali Daruwalla told IANS.

Similarly, Uday Lodh, President of the Federation of All Maharashtra Petrol Dealers Association (FAMPEDA), said that prices will go up, but the exact retail prices to be applicable in the state shall be known later tonight or early on Saturday.

The previous Budget of 2018-19 had cut basic excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre. However, the move was offset by an additional levy of Rs 8 per litre under the levy of road and infrastructure cess on both petrol and diesel.

Domestic fuel prices vary in tandem with global crude and product prices on a daily basis. Last year, fuel prices surged to record levels and the Centre and states faced severe criticism over high excise duty and state levies.

In October, the government had cut excise duty to moderate the effect of rising oil prices. But this cut came after the government had raised excise duty on petrol and diesel on nine occasions, almost doubling its revenue from the oil sector.

On Friday, petrol and diesel prices in the national capital are currently Rs 70.51 and Rs 64.33 per litre, respectively.

What happened is totally wrong. At least petrol price increase to minimum Rupees Five and Diesel price Rupees price by Rupees Four.
As America and Russia stopped space expedition due to lack of funds..world's attention is now towatds India. We are now an progressive developing country. Government should increase more of bus services and train services of people. Vehicles can only use by people who needed the most. Less of vehicles on road...pollution will be less..and people walk freely. If fuel price kept low...all family members take there vehicles out...some go to market just to buy tomotoes..someone will go to by pork meet....others go to have minced meat. As now price of crude oil is going to increase due to sunni saudi and shia iran conflict increase at this moment is welcome move and moreover election is not near. If anybody felt offended let them protest on road alongwith there able leader. Our's is democratic country..we give everybody chance to keep there views. Jai Hind.

Blind Bhakts enjoy the Gift from MODI.!!!

International Crude Oil Prices are reducing and our FEKU Govt is increasing the prices by adding so many taxes and cess.

You Pay Road Tax while buying the vehicle, buying the Fuel and Toll additionally to use the roads.

I wonder if the Govt honestly used all this collection for the development of Road Infrastructure by this time India would have worlds best Road Network.

    People,

International Crude oil prices coming down by increased US crude oil production...inspite OPEC and Russia reducing their quota to increase the crude prices...

This policy of OPEC does not work any more...due to US increase in its crude output...It is in US interest to keep Crude oil prices moderate...

But our 'Putgoshi' politicians since 1947 are increasing Petroleum and Diesel , Cigarettes & Liqour taxes in every budget since 1952...making businessmen to stock these prior to budget and make huge profits after budget...

Our finance minister should be bold and reduces taxes of these in the budget...so Profiteers will shave their head and never hoard these items again...

I don't understand logic behind increasing taxes on Petroleum products and burdening taxpayers and use that money to buy useless arms and planes....what motivate this 'COMMISSION' ???...

    ...Tak...Takk...

@pinto Dubai, since u r working abroad u may find things are cheaper here. But, remember India has crores of ppl who depend upon daily wages. If dey dnt go to wrk or sick no money. Whereas Middle East, European countries are not like dis. From interior villages one has to depend on private vehicles. We Indians who are here also have a more soft corners towards our mother India.. Our country is suitable for us. Dnt say cheaper
