Mangaluru, Jul 3: Giving details, pertaining to the gang rape case of a girl student that occurred in Puttur, superintendent of police (SP) Laxmi Prasad said, "Five students have already been arrested relating to the gang rape at Puttur. All the materials have been seized from the accused and they will be produced in the Mangaluru court,”
“Regarding taking them into custody, we will have a look into it, once the seizure procedure is completed and decide whether to take them into custody or not. We have detained a few people, who first started circulating the video which is also an offence,” he added.
“The incident occurred during the end of March. On an evening, after the class, one of the accused took the victim girl in a car on the pretext of having a casual talk, where the other accused joined them and raped her in an unknown place. Suo Moto case stands registered and also the victim has registered a complaint, ” he informed.
On misusing social media, SP Laxmi Prasad said, "We will create awareness with regard to this at college level. It is the need of the hour to create awareness on using the social media in the right manner,”
Regarding Bantwal honey trap case, Laxmi Prasad said, “Investigation is on. The girl and those who are involved in this case are absconding and search is on for them,”
When asked about whether old cattle trafficking offenders will be warned at district level, SP Laxmi Prasad said, "We have listed few of them from the 260 cases registered in the last eight years. Preventive measure cases will be booked under section 107.”
