Mangaluru, Jul 4: Adani Group will take over the development of the international airport here. The Union cabinet which met on Wednesday July 3 took this decision.
The meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, also cleared a proposal to develop Lucknow and Ahmadabad airports through public-private partnership. The companies which take charge of these airports will run them for a period of 50 years on lease basis. These thee airports are presently under the control of Airports Authority of India. Bids had been invited for developing a number of airports in the country on public-private model and the bid process had been completed thereafter.
The above airports and also Jaipur, Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati airports would be leased out to private companies. The companies concerned will upgrade facilities to world class level in tune with consumer requirement, and collect charges from the airport users in the form of development fee. These airports rank high already in terms of consumer satisfaction. The primary issue the lessees would be concerned with is to ease the congestion in these airports.
It has been mentioned that any issues that are not covered by the Public Private Participation Appraisal Committee on this issue would be deliberated and decided jointly by the secretaries in the departments of economic affairs, expenditure, and civil aviation.
