Puttur, Jul 2: A case was filed against a merchant from Uppinangady in Uppinangady police station, accusing him of trying to rape a married woman. Based on the complaint made by the woman with inordinate delay, the police arrested the accused and produced him in the court.
The arrested accused happens to be Yogeesh Prabhu, who owns a shop near Ullas Junction, Uppinangady.
A married woman had been working in Prabhu's shop in the past. A month back, she had stopped working. He invited her to work in the shop again. On June 28, she went to his shop for working again. It is said that at 1.30 pm that day, Prabhu invited her into the kitchen of his shop and tried to rape her.
The woman ran away from the spot but concealed this information from her husband. But the accused again called her. Sensing that he might harass her even in the future, she explained about what had happened, to her husband. On July 1, she came to Uppinangady police station along with her husband, and registered rape attempt case against Prabhu. The police arrested Prabhu and produced him in the court upon which he was remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
