Panaji, May 21: Goa police have interrogated Pune-based students who had met 19 year old deceased Russian girl Elena Sukhanova on their Goa trip, few days prior to her death.
“During the investigations we came to know that Elena had met two youths who were on Goa holiday. We called them to Goa for interrogation,” superintendent of police Tony Fernandes said. Both the students were in Goa during the last week of April and had met the deceased girl at Baga beach.
Elena’s mutilated corpse was found on railway track at Thivim station, 15 kms away from here on May 08. Police are now trying to piece together all the events prior to her death to nail down the exact reason whether she was killed or fell accidentally from the train and died.
Fernandes said that Elena’s call records indicate that they had spoken to these youths couple of days before her death. “We were trying to find out how she met them and whether she had left for Mumbai or Pune to meet them,” he said. These students had traveled to Goa in their private car and spent a day with the deceased going around state’s famous beaches like Morjim, police said.
Police said that they have not given clean chit to anyone who is being interrogated as they are still probing the death cause.
The investigating agencies are also inquiring about the several missed calls on Elena’s mobile phone, which she received from a beach shack owner, few hours before her dead body was found on the railway tracks.
Fernandes said that the Nokia mobile phone belonging to Elena, which was recovered from the death scene had several phone calls from Vishant Kudnekar, who runs the O’Pinhal Buckingham shack, located at Calangute beach.
Kudnekar had also moved for anticipatory bail on May 14, which was denied to him. Police have found that Elena was a regular visitor to his shack.
