Elroy Kiran Crasto of Udupi diocese participates in CBCI’s national conference

Udupi, Jun 27: Elroy Kiran Crasto of Udupi diocese participated in a national conference on ‘Societal development and livelihood issues of unorganized workers and migrants’ organized by CBCI office for labour/workers India federation in Ernakulam from June 24 to 25.

The conference was organized for the study on the issues faced by the migrant and labour community of India, which is largely an unorganized sector. The conference discussed on the issues of livelihood issues of unorganized workers, theology of empowerment for the marginalized workers, challenges of migration and issues of marginalized occupational groups.

Speaking to Daijiworld.com Elroy Kiran Crasto said, “This conference was need of the hour. The conference has taken many decisions which will benefit the marginalized and migrated labour community. Important of these are unification and strengthening of these people, strict implementation of labour policy existing in India and data collection of migrant workers in church.”



The conference was inaugurated by Bishop Alex Vadakkumthala, bishop of Kannur and chairman of CBCI office for labour/workers.

As many as 42 participants took part in the conference from all over India. From Karnataka, three representatives attended the conference which included Elroy Kiran Crasto (Udupi diocese), Fr Vincent D’Souza (Mangaluru diocese), and Fr Arul Selvakumar, Suresh (Mysuru diocese).
