Udupi, Jun 27: The diamond jubilee celebration of Rotary Club Udupi-Manipal (RCUM) and installation ceremony of the 2019-20 team members will be held on June 28 at 6 pm at Town Hall in Ajjarkad, Udupi.
Addressing the reporters at Udupi Press Club on Wednesday, June 26, PDG Rtn Dr H Shantharam, chairman of RCUM Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee said, “The president of the Diamond Jubilee year Rtn Amit Aravind and secretary Rtn Prashanth Hegde undertook several projects in the year 2018-19. They will be handing over the baton to Rtn Rajavarma Ariga, who will be the president and Rtn Shreesha Hegde who will be the secretary for the year 2019-20.
“Former RI president Rtn Kalyan Banerjee will be the chief guest for the Diamond Jubilee celebration and district governor Rtn Abhinandan Shetty, DGN Rtn Rajaram Bhat, AG 2018-19 Rtn Dr A Ganesh, AG 2019-20 Rtn Dr Sesappa A Rai, ZL 2018-19 Rtn Chandra Naik, and ZL 2019-20 Rtn Satish will guests of honour.
“Rotary Club Manipal was founded by Late T Ramesh U Pai and the charter president was Padma Shri Awardee Late Dr TMA Pai. The club had Dr Krishna Rao, K K Pai and others as their charter members. This year marks the completion of 60 glorious years of service under the presidentship of Rtn Amit Aravind and secretary Rtn Prashanth Hegde,” Shantharam said.
Projects by the club
Inspired by Rotary’s objective of community service and motto “Service above self,” the Club has undertaken various projects, such as:
1. Provided GeneXpert machine to Govt. Hospital, Udupi
2. Provided e-Shaala kits to 50 schools
3. Donation of house and relief fund to flood affected victims of Kodagu and Kerala
4. Provided solar lamps for 112 houses
5. Provided 120 sewing machines to economically backward women with an aim to promote women empowerment
6. Provided library, toilets and laboratory facilities to Rajeev Nagar School
7. Provided wash basins to schools
Diamond Jubilee Project
Under the chairmanship of Dr H Shantharam and to mark the Diamond Jubilee Year of Rotary Club, two big projects were taken up:
1. A house was donated to Kodagu Flood Relief worth Rs 5.46 lac on June 18, 2019
2. Providing e-Shaala Learning Kits to 60 schools of Udupi district worth Rs 60 lac.
