Mangaluru, Jun 26: The city has not yet received proper Monsoon rain. But from the past one week, the road of Suvarna Lane, behind Fr Muller Hospital is completely covered by water and looks like a flooded area.
The road, which connects more than 200 residents of the said area to Fr Muller main road, is now completely flooded and cannot be used at least for some hours. Prima facie the residents complain that the unscientific drainage system and blockade of water flowing by nearby buildings are the main reason for the water log. The road is inundated with knee high water flowing on the road causing inconvenience to commuters.
Hundreds of pedestrians use this road to get to the main road and now the waterlogging has become a nightmare to them. Vehicles are getting off at middle of the road, while school children are getting troubled by cessation of mud water.
“Suvarna Lane is one of the densest areas of Valencia. Whenever it water starts accumulating at the entrance of the lane. Unscientific drainage system is the main reason for this waterlog. At the same time, the existing drainage is also not cleaned before the onset of monsoon. Plastic bags and hard objects got stuck in drainage and it is forcing to drainage water to come out onto the road. Many buildings are constructed by the side of the road violating the standard guidelines. These constructions are blocking the rainwater on the road. We have already informed about this issue to the local corporator. Many times we have complained to the corporation but the administration has not showed any interest to solve the issue,” says a local resident who does not to want reveal his name.
“Local corporator knows the current situation. Water logging at entrance of Suvarna Lane is a long pending issue. Every year the water gets clogged here. Reconstruction of drainage is the only solution for the problem,” said Vandana, a school teacher who resides in the same lane.
