Udupi, Jun 25: Owners of four concerns and showrooms which faced heavy loss due to Sunday night fire at ARJ Arcade, Indrali here have stated that they have cumulatively lost Rs 5.75 crore in this incident.
Jayadev Motors said it lost about five crore rupees as 11 motor bikes were completely charred and the spare parts stall also was burnt down.
Addition Cloth Store put the loss at ten lac rupees while Krishna Engineers, a computer firm, said that it lost about Rs 62 lac in the form of laptops, computers etc. Warehouse, another firm, said it suffered loss of Rs 3.5 lac.
District superintendent of police, Nisha James, visited the building on Monday morning. She said that on the face of it, the fire appears to have been ignited due to short circuit. She said that a clearer picture will emerge once the Mescom and fire brigade officials submit report of their findings.
District fire officer Vasanth Kumar, said that fire brigade personnel helped in shifting the bikes and scooters from the workshop. The fire brigade had to toil for three and half hours before they could douse the flames completely.
