Bantwal, Jun 24: “The celebration of the centenary silver jubilee in the church shows love for God. It has become a reality in Borimar church,” said Shivamogga diocese Bishop, Dr Francis Serrao.
He offered a special mass in the name of Borimar parishioners residing abroad during his visit to Borimar church, Bantwal on Sunday evening. The church is celebrating its centenary silver jubilee.
“Various programmes that are held every month here is proof of God’s blessings to the devotees in Borimar church during the last 125 years. The love of God will never go in vain. He is always with us. I am grateful to God for having bestowed an opportunity for me to participate in the noble deed,” he said. He congratulated parish priest Fr Gregory Pereira and vice president of parish pastoral council Roshan Martis for having held the programme.
Chief guest, Mangaluru Bejai Lourdes Central School principal Fr Robert D’Souza presented mementos to the families of the parishioners residing abroad and felicitated them. Fr Lancy and Victor Dias, Sr Nancy, parish pastoral council secretary Preethi Lancy Pereira were present.
Bishop Dr Francis Serrao was honored by the parish pastoral council.
Parish pastoral council vice president Roshan Martis welcomed the gathering. Church parish priest Fr Gregory Pereira rendered the vote of thanks. Thomas Lasrado who was employed in the Gulf for several years and spending a retired life, compered the programme dressed in Arab costume.
Meals were served to all after mass.
An entertainment programme by ‘Jerry and Jerry Night’, troupe sponsored by the parishioners employed abroad was held at the end.
