Ramchi: National Games Postponed again

Ramchi, May 15: The National Games has been postponed from its earlier scheduled date of June 1-14 and it will now be held from November 21 to December 5 in Jharkhand, Jharkhand Olympic Association president R K Anand said on Thursday.

"These are the final dates, and under no circumstances the new schedule will be changed," Anand said.

After the National Games was allotted to the state in 2002, the organisers had announced four dates -- November 15, 2007, December 1, 2008, February 14, 2009 and June 1, 2009 -- but each time it was postponed citing incomplete infrastructure.

Anand said the organisers would not disappoint sportspersons and fans any more.

"We are going to stick to these schedule, a word you can take it from me," Anand said when he was informed about the participants' plight vis-a-vis booking tickets in advance and other related problems.

Maximum work has been finished at Jamshedpur and Dhanbad, the two other venues for the Games, he said and added a state-level Games would be organised in October to give the state players a feel of the upcoming sporting infrastructure.

The multi-crore Games village at Hotwar in Ranchi is still under construction to host the annual sporting showpiece.
