Mangaluru, Jun 22: Dr Rajesh Bhat, a well-known obstetrician and gynaecologist of Bhat's Nursing Home at Gandhinagar, Mannagudda here, passed away after collapsing when participating in badminton tournament at Mangala Stadium here on Saturday, June 22. He was 48.
Dr Rajesh was the son of the late Dr Malathi Bhat, who was also a renowned obstetrician and gynaecologist. When playing, he suffered massive heart attack and collapsed. He was rushed to A J Hospital. In spite of their best efforts, the doctors could not save his life.
Dr Bhat was the full time working partner of Bhat's Nursing Home. He is survived by wife, Dr Veena Bhat, and family members.
After securing MBBS degree in 1995, Dr Bhat went on to complete DGO course in 1998 from Kasturba Medical College here. He worked for some time at K S Hegde Medical Academy before joining Bhat's Nursing Home run by his mother. He had undergone training in gynaecological endoscopic surgeries.
As a consequence of this shocking incident, the badminton tournament, 'Mangalore Premium League', stands cancelled.
