Mangaluru, Jun 21: International Yoga Day with the theme ‘Climate Action’ was meaningfully celebrated at St Ann’s College of Education on Friday June 21.
The celebration began with a formal lighting of lamp by Dr Sr Clare A C, principal and president of the programme, Dr Sr Saritha D’Cunha, BHMS, MD, Fr Muller’s Medical College as the chief guest, Suresh Kumar T, physical director and student representative Gladys Fernandes and Josna D’Souza.
To set the right note for this programme, ‘Om Mantra’ was chanted as part of prayer to put the participants in a peaceful atmosphere. Suresh Kumar T, physical director accorded a warm welcome to all the dignitaries and audience.
Dr Sr Saritha D’Cunha, in her inspiring talk on ‘Fitness and tips for a balanced diet spoke about how a healthy diet helps to maintain or improve overall health. She added on saying how physical exercises create a healthy living ability, boosts the immune system and prevents the ‘Diseases of affluence’.
Dr Sr Clare in her message highlighted the importance of yoga that helps a person to be a physical, mental and spiritual being. “Yoga helps to focus and concentrate, improve our muscle tone and meditation makes us feel healthier in body, mind and spirit, she said.
To bring out the significance of the day, the students of BEd and MEd along with the faculty members performed yogasanas for an hour. Everyone participated enthusiastically under the leadership and initiation of the physical director.
Akshatha compered the programme. Samiya explained the significance of yoga and Nikita Helena rendered the vote of thanks. As many as 116 members were present.
