Udupi, Jun 21: Out of the 31 banks in the district, 13 have showed negative growth rate. There is a need to increase housing and education loans to balance the deficit advance, said Udupi zilla panchayat CEO Sindhu Rupesh.
She was speaking at the quarterly district level review meet at Dr V S Acharya Meeting Hall on Thursday, June 20.
The CEO stressed on good cooperation between bankers and government departments. With coordination, proper implementation of various government schemes such as PMEGP, CMEGP, NULM, and NRLM will be possible. This will reflect as good performance during this financial year, she said.
Delivering the keynote address, Sujatha, regional manager of Syndicate Bank Regional Office, Udupi said, “During the fourth quarter, total deposits of the banking sector in the district stood at Rs 23,827 crore registering a year-to year growth of 6.54 % and total advances stood at Rs 11,816 crore with year-to year growth of 5.02 % as on March 31, 2019 with CD ratio 49.59 percent.”
By the end of the fourth quarter of the year 2018-19, banks disbursed loans to the extent of Rs 6,515 crore against the annual target of Rs 8,705.63 crore, recording 74.84% achievement. Of this, Rs 2,325 crore was disbursed to agriculture sector, Rs 1,900 crore was disbursed to micro, small and medium enterprises. Rs 110 crore to educational sector, Rs 510 crore to housing and Rs 670 crore was disbursed to other priority sector. Thus, the total disbursal under priority sector was Rs 5,515 crore (73.48%) as against annual target of Rs 7,505.63 crore. Rs 1,000 crore was disbursed to non-priority
sector against a target of Rs 1200 crore.
Out of the advances outstanding in the district, the share of credit for the upliftment of the weaker sections (SC/ST SF/MF SHG DRI govt schemes etc) was 1,355 crore covering 99,185 beneficiaries. This includes Rs 444 crore in advance to 23,778 SC/ST beneficiaries. At the end of the review period, 47,689 beneficiaries belonging to minority communities have been financially assisted to the extent of Rs 1,151 crore.
Further, the number of women financed by banks stood at 1,37,002 with an outstanding amount of Rs 2,497 crore.
The total amount of education loans disbursed during the quarter was Rs 110 crore covering 3,146 students.
Presenting the progress under special focus scheme LDCM, Rudresh D C informed the house that under the Kisan Credit Card scheme, Rs 355.46 crore was disbursed for 24,543 card holders.
P K Pattanaik, AGM, RBI, Bengaluru, emphasized the need to increase CD ratio of the district and stressed on popularising digital banking system.
S Ramesh, AGM(DD), NABARD reviewed the implementation of the district credit plan during the fourth quarter of financial year 2018-19 and advised the banks to concentrate on lending more under priority sector as the progress is not satisfactory. He also touched upon NABARD assisted schemes and training programme for Branch Heads of Group mode of financing.
