Mangaluru, Jun 20: Locals of Kenjar Bajpe took KPTCL officials to task when they arrived to conduct a survey for railway electrification work on Thursday, June 20.
KPTCL had earlier installed high tension wire over farmlands and houses located at Kenjar Bajpe. The wires pose risk to the villagers, who are living under a sense of fear since then.
This high tension wire has claimed several lives in this region. Recently, a farmer who was working in the field was electrocuted because of the high tension wire.
Now for the purpose of railway electrification, the officials have opted for the same spot. When the officials arrived to conduct the survey, locals took the officials to task and opposed their move.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Prakash Shetty, a local said, "For the purpose of railway electrification, the officials have opted the same spot and have come for survey. We agitated for the same reason and prevented the officials from doing the survey. There is genuine reason behind our agitation. In the past, high tension wires, which pass through our farmlands and houses, claimed lives of people who were working in the fields. It is equal to inviting death. So we have demanded the deputy commissioner and the government to drop this plan.”
Another local, Dr Shekar Poojary said, "Whenever a project is planned, it should be useful for people. Instead, this project poses danger to the people of Bajpe as high tension wires pass through our farmland and houses. This project is an unscientific one. We want the government to drop this project.”
